New Zealand have won as many Tests on their autumn tour as Wales have since the 2023 World Cup, yet it is the All Blacks who are under pressure this weekend.
Coach Scott Robertson was criticized after his side suffered a 33-19 defeat to England, ending their hopes of a Great Britain and Ireland tour of the Grand Slam, as it is viewed in New Zealand.
The All Blacks are second in the world rankings, and South Africa clinch the Rugby Championship title on points difference and beat Ireland and Scotland before the defeat at Allianz Stadium.
However, they are struggling to meet high expectations, and a third loss in 2025 leaves them needing not just to beat Wales, but to do so comprehensively and in style.
Wales have nothing to lose on Saturday afternoon, while the All Blacks appear to have nothing to gain.
At the All Blacks’ Cardiff Bay hotel, a New Zealand journalist asked Robertson about the pressure his team was under and how he was trying to boost morale.
“You’re really talking about that,” the head coach replied, smiling. “You’re so hot, aren’t you?
“We’re focusing on what we could have done better last week and continuing with that. There were some really good things there and you look at that.
“We’ve won all the stats, but the scoreboard is the most important, so how can we get it right?”
