Qatar Open: Emma Raducanu withdraws in the first round two days after defeating Transylvania Open in the final

Emma Raducano has withdrawn from her first-round match against Camila Osorio at the Qatar Open, two days after losing the Transylvania Open final.

The first British player called the coach to measure her blood pressure after suffering a fracture at the beginning of the third set, and after falling behind 2-0 in the deciding set against Osorio of Colombia, she lost the match.

Raducano won the first set 6-2 before losing the second 6-4.

The 23-year-old appeared on Saturday in her first final since winning the US Open in 2021, but lost in just over an hour to Sorana Cirstea at the Transylvania Open.

Raducanu’s blood pressure was also taken at that match, and she revealed afterwards that her fitness was affected because she was “suffering from a chest infection”.

Raducano started strong against Osario, taking a 3-0 lead before going on to take the first set 6-2.

Osario showed signs of a comeback late in the first set and her resurgence continued in the second set as she secured her first serve of the match to take a 3-2 lead.

Osario was forcing Raducano to make mistakes and ended the second set 6-4 when the British player hit a long forehand.

After saving two break points at the start of the deciding set, Raducano broke again after carefully failing to chase the ball before calling for her coach.

Raducanu briefly returned to action, but after Osario consolidated her break, the Briton made her way to the net to inform the referee that she was retiring from the match.

Raducano has been plagued by injuries and has struggled to find consistency on the WTA Tour since her historic US Open win.

In October, Raducano retired in the first round of the Wuhan Open after a doctor took her blood pressure and temperature.

In January, she parted ways with her last coach, Francis Roig, after a second-round exit at the Australian Open.

Spaniard Roig, with whom she has been working since the summer of 2025, was the ninth person to coach Raducano since 2021.
