‘Real teamwork’ helps Rangers, with defender John Soutar saying: ‘I think we’re building something here.’

After a turbulent start to the season, the Ibrox side will move into second place in the Scottish Premiership if they avoid defeat at home to Aberdeen on Tuesday.

A win would move them three points clear of Hearts at the top.

Saturday’s 3-1 derby win away to Celtic was manager Danny Ruhl’s ninth win in 12 league games since taking over from Russell Martin in October, while there was only one loss in that run.

Scotland international Souttar said it was “too early” to talk about silverware but added: “There is real solidarity and I think we are building something here.

“I think we can feel that. The coach and everyone involved can feel that, but it’s important that we continue to support that.”

Ruhl inherited a team lacking in confidence, with Rangers eight points behind Celtic and 13 behind Hearts.

“He is clear about what he wants from everyone on the pitch,” Soutar said of the German.

“He’s really good tactically and he can change that up during games and he’s not afraid to do that at half-time.”

Referring to the win over Celtic, Souttar continued: “(Mohamed) Diomandi came on (in place of Thilo Asgard) and brought real energy. Thilo was really good that night, so I think it’s hard to pinpoint one or two things he’s good at but I really enjoy working with him.”

“We just need to keep the momentum going, take it one game at a time because if we don’t back up on Tuesday, there’s no sense in doing it on Saturday, so every game is huge and we’ll keep going.”
