If Rangers manager Danny Ruhl is right, perhaps the SPFL should start thinking about chartering a helicopter for the final round of Premiership matches.
Ruhl believes the title race is so tight that it could be decided on the final day of the season. To this end, the German is convinced that a successful transfer window is essential.
With 16 games remaining, Hearts are six points clear of Celtic and Rangers.
“Yesterday we talked about the pre-season,” Ruhl said. “We had a meeting about camps and friendlies. Then finally I said that my belief at the moment is that in the last round we will have maybe a race with three teams. You can be in front, you can be in second place, you can be in third place.
“It’s good for the fans. For us, we have to prepare.”
The Ibrox club famously won the title in 2005, beating Celtic on the final day, when they beat Hibs at Easter Road and Celtic lost to Motherwell in the original ‘Helicopter Sunday’, the chartered helicopter changing the course of the capital as leaders Celtic lost by two late goals at Fir Park.
The league was suspended four times in the first decade of the century, but that has not happened since 2011 when Rangers were victorious again.
These were straight Old Firm battles, and this time Hearts were in the mix too.
To steal a march on both rivals, Rühl believes the current transfer window is vital,
“In the last two weeks we have been very clear about what we want to do and what we need to do,” he said. “This is the good part. From this point, we move forward. Let’s see what is possible in the market.”
