Rangers have reopened discussions with Danny Ruhl with a view to becoming their new coach, less than a week after the German ruled himself out of the running.
This development comes hours after the deal to bring Kevin Muscat to Ibrox collapsed during advanced discussions.
Ruhl, whose last managerial role was with Sheffield Wednesday in the English Championship, was favored by some at Ibrox before interest turned to Muscat.
Rangers say negotiations have continued with several candidates and they are looking to appoint a successor to the sacked Russell Martin in the coming days.
Martin was sent off after 17 games on 5 October with Rangers in eighth place in the league, nine points behind champions Celtic and a further two behind leaders Heart of Midlothian.
Rangers also failed to qualify for the Champions League under Martin and lost both of their Europa League matches.
The team now sits sixth in the Scottish Premier League – 13 points behind Derek McInnes’ side – with just one win from eight matches, and faces Brann (17:45 GMT) in the Europa League on Thursday.
