England international Ravi Quirk has announced that he will leave his boyhood club Sale Sharks at the end of the season, after linking up with Newcastle Red Bulls.
The 24-year-old, who made two appearances and scored a memorable goal in England’s win over South Africa in November 2021, has been plagued by a series of injuries, with Scot Gus Warr often preferred at club level.
However, Quirke has enjoyed a good run this season and was part of England’s squad for international matches in the autumn, retaining his place for the recent January encounter despite the return of Leicester City’s Jack van Poortvliet and Bristol’s Harry Randall from injury.
“This was the hardest decision of my life so far because Sale is the club I grew up supporting and dreamed of playing for,” Quirke said.
He added: “Playing here since I was 15 years old has been an amazing experience and a privilege that has shaped me as a player and a person and I will be forever grateful.” [director of rugby] Alex [Sanderson]And the owners, coaches, players and supporters for really believing in me.
