The English Football Association has imposed sanctions on Reading assistant Richard Boone, after he made a homophobic comment towards the match referee.
Boone’s comment towards Matt Corlett was heard by the fourth official in the first half of Reading’s match against Huddersfield on 9 August 2025.
Boone has now admitted the charge, external He received a six-match ban, a £200 fine and compulsory schooling.

“The club respects and supports the outcomes of the regulatory committee process and recognizes the importance of maintaining the highest standards of conduct within the game,” Reading said in a statement.
“Richard has accepted responsibility for his actions and will now implement the sanctions imposed.
He added: “Throughout this period, the club will support Richard in implementing the required education and rehabilitation programme, with a focus on learning, accountability and personal development.”
