The Irish Football Association has confirmed that the Republic of Ireland’s home match against Israel in the UEFA Nations League on October 4 will be played at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin.

After the two sides met earlier this month, reports emerged, external The match will be played at a neutral venue due to security concerns after Belgium’s home match with Israel in September 2024 was moved to Debrecen, Hungary.

However, according to the FA, Gardai (Irish police) advised that the match could be played “safely at the Aviva Stadium”.

The two teams are also scheduled to face each other in a rematch on September 27. The Israel Football Association said it hopes to host the Republic of Ireland in Tel Aviv, but the venue has not yet been confirmed.

In a letter to the FA General Assembly, Paul Cook, president of the FA, said the decision to complete the home and away matches and host the match at home in Dublin was taken “after obtaining legal advice, engaging with key stakeholders and considering our constitutional obligations.”

“We realize this decision will be difficult for many members and supporters. It is not made lightly,” Cook said.

“We intend to use the home match as an opportunity to provide tangible support to humanitarian efforts assisting civilians affected by the conflict. More details will be determined closer to the match.”
