Rhys Zammit’s return? New captain? Questions facing the Wales senior rugby team under Tandy

Cardiff lock Teddy Williams is one of the autumn’s biggest absentees after dislocating his foot against Connacht, an injury that could see him miss the rest of the season.

Cardiff players James Botham and Mason Grady are also sidelined due to injuries.

Scarlets captain Josh McLeod and Exeter’s Christ Chonza are certain to miss November’s matches due to injuries, while hooker Ryan Elias and center Eddie James are expected to miss most of next month’s matches.

In addition to Morgan and Reece-Zammit’s fitness issues, Tandy also has a series of other injury concerns.

Dragons hooker Elliot Dee has yet to feature this season, while Ospreys duo Giles and Keiran Williams, who have enjoyed a promising start to the season, bowed out late before the 42-17 defeat to Glasgow in Bridgend.

Ospreys scrum-half Kieran Hardy has been ruled out of that game after leaving the Zebre game with a rib injury.

Prop Rhys Carre is fit and has started the season strongly for Saracens – but he is currently ineligible under the WRU’s selection policy because he has 20 caps, five fewer than the number required for those playing for clubs outside Wales.

So a rule change or loophole would be needed from Wales for him to return.

Carey will become available to other countries in 2026 as it has been three years since he previously played for Wales.
