World number one Judd Trump achieved a landslide 4-0 victory over Mark Williams in just 48 minutes to reach the semi-finals of the Riyadh Season Snooker Championship.
Trump, who has yet to win a title this season, returned to his old style and looked closer to his fluent best as he sealed the win with breaks of 100 and 102.
It was a far cry from his performance in his defeat to Mark Selby in the Champion of Champions final four days ago, when he spoke of his struggles since choosing to switch to a new braid – with a titanium ring rather than the traditional copper ring – at the start of the campaign.
“The experiment with that signal didn’t work,” Trump said. “It’s hard to do your best when you’re trying to find the right signal, but I’m struggling there.”
“There will still be some change until I find the right signal, it’s not perfect at the moment.
“We’re all lucky to play snooker for a living. Sometimes it’s tough when things don’t go your way, but I’ll keep trying and at some point it will work again.”
Trump will face China’s Zhao Xintong in the semi-finals on Friday after the world champion collected four half-centuries during his 4-2 win over Shaun Murphy.
Defending champion Mark Allen and Australian Neil Robertson will compete in the other semi-final.
Northern Ireland’s Allen won 4-2 in a tough match against Scotland’s John Higgins.
Robertson, who has already won the Saudi Arabia Masters this season, managed breaks of 100, 133, 88 and 76 in a dominant 4-0 win over Kyren Wilson.
