Ronda Rousey recently spoke out about the current state of the UFC and criticized the promotion for not paying its fighters adequately.

Rousey is among the biggest names in combat sports and is often credited with helping bring mixed martial arts to the mainstream. She is also widely considered a pioneer in women’s mixed martial arts and boasts a 12-2 record as a professional.

Nearly ten years after her last bout against Amanda Nunes at UFC 207 in December 2016, Rousey is set to return to action against Gina Carano on May 16 at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles.

During a pre-fight press session, Rousey shared her thoughts on the current state of the UFC and criticized the promotion for not paying fighters more money. She said:

“It used to be that the UFC was the best place you could come to do combat sports to make a living and get a fair wage,” she said. “And now that’s not the case anymore; it’s one of the worst places to go. That’s why so many top athletes leave to go and find pay elsewhere.”

She added:

“That’s why they have heroes, like Valentina [Shevchenko]they sell photos of their sexual relationships on OnlyF*ns. You know? Like, these people, a lot of them at the ground level, can’t even, can’t support their families. They live at poverty level, fighting full time. This company just raised $7.7 billion. “There’s no reason why they can’t at least pay their athletes a living wage.”

Ronda Rousey claims Dana White knows White House’s UFC card ‘bad’

During the same pre-fight press conference, Ronda Rousey also hypothesized why UFC stock was falling among fight fans. Dana White allegedly stepped away from a leadership role negatively impacted the company.

Claiming that White also knew how fans were viewing White’s UFC card, Rousey said:

“I think most of my criticism of the UFC now is because Dana’s not the owner, that he doesn’t make the decisions, he doesn’t run things the way he wants, because he’s an employee of the company now. He’s not an owner. And I think it was a big mistake on their part to not let him run things the way he always did.”

She added:

“Oh, he knows the White House ticket is bad. He knows they’ve been pushing this for over a year, and it hasn’t lived up to expectations. I mean he was pretty upset about it…I can guarantee you he’s not happy about it either.” [H/t: MMA Mania]
