Rousey vs. Carano: Ronda Rousey wants to ‘rewrite the ending’ against Gina Carano

Ronda Rousey says she wants to “rewrite her ending” for her first MMA match in ten years against Gina Carano on May 16.

Carano and Rousey met at a press conference in Los Angeles for the first time before their featherweight bout at the Intuit Dome.

Rousey (39 years old) appeared in court and criticized the modern UFC championship, and praised its president, Dana White, and her competitor, before responding to allegations that her confrontation with Carano was a “charity” fight.

“The way things ended [in MMA] “It was really heartbreaking for me,” said Rousey, who has been knocked out in her last two UFC fights.

“[Carano] You inspired me to pull myself together and pursue the fight I always wanted to do. This is the biggest fight in MMA right now.

“This is not a charity card or a nostalgia card, this is the biggest fight in the world. This is destiny for us.”

It has been 10 years since Rousey has fought an MMA bout in the UFC, while 43-year-old Carano is 17 years removed.

Both American fighters will undergo additional concussion testing with Rousey admitting she had to retire from her UFC career due to repeated concussions.

That led to criticism of the contest, which will be held under Jake Paul’s MVP promotion, but Rousey pushed those concerns aside as she seamlessly settled back into the persona that made her one of the biggest athletes on the planet and launched women’s mixed martial arts into the mainstream for the first time.

Rousey, who won and finished 12 out of 14 professional fights, spoke about her opponent’s influence on her as a young fighter, before Carano returned the compliments.

After the press conference, the pair had a showdown, with Rousey sporting her classic look which Carano greeted with a smile.

“Obviously the motivation for the fight is what Ronda asked me about. She’s very charming,” Carano said.

“Other jobs like this have come up but nothing as significant as this. To share this moment with her, we only have to live once and it makes me feel so alive and grateful for this opportunity.”
