Josh Allen had a mixed performance in Saturday’s divisional round game at the Denver Broncos. While he threw for nearly 280 yards and three touchdowns, he also lost the ball four times.

The first two came from fumbles, first when he was sacked, then when he dropped the ball after rushing for the first time. Then he was ejected twice — the second of which was fatal, as it happened in overtime and allowed the hosts to pull away 33-30 on a field goal.

After the game, former Super Bowl winner Ryan Clark wrote:

“The Broncos are the better team. The Bills had the best player. 17 shot them. He missed them. The Broncos also just made plays. Bo Nix beat Josh Allen. That was Allen’s shot. If not now then when? He’s an absolute beast, but he’s not becoming the guy. 17 is going to want a lot of this 1.”

The Broncos are the better team. The Bills had an MVP. 17 were injured by gunshots. He missed them. The Broncos also just made plays. Bo Nix defeated Josh Allen. This was Allen’s shot. If not now then when? He’s an absolute monster, but he hasn’t become the man. 17 will want a lot of this 1

The comments represent a full-circle moment for Clark, who said of Allen’s legacy last week on First Take:

“If Josh Allen doesn’t win the Super Bowl or this team doesn’t get to the Super Bowl with whoever doesn’t make the playoffs, it’s a failure.”

Bills legend Jim Kelly reacts to Broncos loss of Josh Allen

Of course, not everyone had harsh or derogatory words for Josh Allen.

After the game, Jim Kelly, who was the Bills’ starting quarterback during their dominance in the 1990s and led the team to four consecutive Super Bowl appearances, said (as relayed by his wife, Jill):

“Oh my God, I feel so sorry for Josh. What an escape!”

Allen himself felt bad during the post-match press conference, saying:

“It’s very difficult. I feel like I let my teammates down tonight. I missed chances throughout the game. It’s been a long season. I hate the way it ended. This will stay with me for a long time.”

But left tackle Dion Dawkins tearfully denied that idea when speaking inside the locker room.
