He retained his title with a majority draw against 46-year-old Manny Pacquiao in July.

Garcia’s meeting with Haney was scheduled to take place in April 2024 for the World Boxing Council lightweight title, but Garcia missed the weight and was not eligible to win the belt.

In December, the World Boxing Council confirmed Briton Conor Penn as No. 1 in the welterweight rankings. He could be next in line to face the winner of Barrios Garcia.
Penn said at the time that he would “be watching closely.”
He said on Instagram: “I will come to get this belt and Britain will have a new world champion.”
