India’s opener Sanju Samson is all-arms against West Indies in the T20 World Cup 2026 Super 8 match at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Sunday, March 1. The one-wicketkeeper-batsman smashed two fours off Akhil Hossain in 17 overs.

The carnage was shown during the third round of the Men in Blue chase. Samson started again with the boundary by punching the gap between cover and point. The right-hander then launched the next delivery into deep square for a maximum. After playing a dotted delivery, he went off the back foot and pulled another one for six over deep mid-wicket. The second six were larger. His exploits helped India score 17 runs, but they lost Abhishek Sharma on the final delivery.

Sanju Samson has given defending champions India another strong start in their virtual T20 World Cup 2026 quarter-final against West Indies.

At the time of writing, India are 45/2 after five overs, with Samson (20 off 10) and skipper Suryakumar Yadav (1 off 3) at the crease. Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan departed for 10 (11) and 10 (6) respectively.

Batting first, WI put on 195/4 in his allotted 20 overs. Roston Chase top-scored with 40 off 25 balls, including one six and five boundaries. Skipper Shai Hope also looked good on 32 off 32 deliveries as he put the duo on a 68-run stand for the opening wicket. Shimron Hetmyer played a small role, scoring 27 points from 12 before Jason Holder and Rovman Powell scored the final goal. Holder scored 37 goals from 22 without defeat, while Powell scored 34 goals from 19 balls. The duo put on an unbeaten partnership of 76 runs off 35 balls for the fifth wicket.

Jasprit Bumrah shone with the ball for India, finishing with figures of 2/36, while Hardik Pandya and Varun Chakaravarthy took one wicket each, conceding identical 40 runs in four overs each.
