Norris’ victory, his second in a row and seventh in 21 races this year, was never in doubt on a perfect weekend for the British driver.

The 25-year-old Briton dominated the race from the front after taking first place, adding to his victory in the sprint race from pole position he achieved on Saturday.

The weekend earned him a total of 33 points and put an end to the championship.

Norris came off the finish line well to take the lead on the first lap and navigated a chaotic opening section of the race with an early safety car followed by a virtual safety car (VSC) a few laps later before pulling into the distance to win on a double stop strategy.

The safety car was caused by a first-lap crash by Sauber’s Gabriel Bortoletto, who collided with Lance Stroll’s Aston Martin at turn nine.

The VSC accident came after a collision at the start of the second half on the sixth lap between Piastri, Antonelli and Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc, which led to Leclerc retiring and Piastri receiving a penalty kick.

Norris dedicated the win to former McLaren advisor Gil de Ferran, one of the key figures in the team’s revival in recent years, who died of a heart attack in December 2023.
