✅ Key idea:
It is difficult to gauge Morocco’s quality against a team from the smallest country among the 24 competing in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations – and in front of their own raucous fans.
Comoros did not suffer any defeat and topped its group in the qualifiers, ahead of Tunisia and shocking Ghana in the last African Cup of Nations two years ago.
However, Morocco beat Comoros 3-1 to top their group in the recent Arab Cup in Qatar before beating Jordan 3-2 after extra time in the final on Thursday.
This was with a completely different team than the team participating in the tournament on home soil.
Comoros only had one player from the Arab Cup start at Prince Moulay Abdullah Stadium against the hosts.
However, it is another indication that Morocco has deep power.
These were three points gained without having to call up influential captain Achraf Hakimi, who was only fit to make the bench after sustaining an ankle injury while playing for Paris Saint-Germain in a Champions League match in early November.
El Kaabi himself was a substitute before the 32-year-old Olympiacos striker scored a stunning goal 25 minutes from time.
Well, he didn’t quite rise off the ground like McTominay, but he was greeted with similar shouts on his home court.
Morocco’s depth will face a more difficult test in the upcoming challenges, starting with Mali on Christmas and then Zambia on December 29.
However, they will be favorites to qualify from Group A as they look to win the Africa Cup of Nations for the first time since 1976 or at least reach the final for the first time in 21 years.
More time for Clarke to judge the strengths and weaknesses of the team Scotland will face at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, USA, on June 19.
