As the Real Madrid star approached the BBC cameras in Scotland after another night at the office, her smile was close to the ear, if not a little shy at times.

She knew her personal performances would be highlighted again. And that’s not really up her alley.

“It feels really great,” the 30-year-old told BBC Scotland. “Obviously it’s great to score, but honestly, getting the three points is the most important thing.

“I’m just focused on helping the team.

“Playing a bit of an attacking role and helping to score goals and create chances is what I’m here to do.”

As true as that may be, few take it quite as literally as Weir.

When there is a need for something, anything, eyes are drawn to it.

This seems to be increasing in the Andreatta era. Not only because she captains Australia, but because of the increased emphasis on set-pieces. This is where Ware shines.

During the four friendly matches at the end of last year, the coach and her team spoke of the extra attention paid to set-piece situations, especially by assistant Marty Judge.

All three goals in the first half came from set-piece scenarios – and each time Judge was the first to be recognized by Andreatta.

“We focus a lot on set pieces,” Weir explained. “We feel like we have a really strong threat there, both in terms of delivery and from the air.

“We honestly feel like every set-piece is a good opportunity for us. A lot of work has been put into them, so, when they come out of the game, we’re really happy.”
