Clarke visited potential locations in the United States before settling on Charlotte and Fort Lauderdale as his team’s home bases this summer.

Scotland will play Haiti (June 14) and Morocco (June 19) in Massachusetts and finish Group C in Miami against Brazil (June 24).

“I always wanted to go to the World Cup with my national team, so now I’ve done it,” said the former Chelsea and St Mirren defender, who played six caps for Scotland.

When asked if the ball was now in the court of the Saudi Sports for All Federation, Clarke was happy to agree.

“Yes, I think so,” he said. “I had a very short conversation with Ian [Maxwell, SFA chief executive] About what they want to do moving forward.

He added: “But I think I’m waiting for the Scottish FA to come to me now and say: ‘Look, this is what we see as the future, and if I’m part of that we can have this discussion.'”

Clark admits he has had a slight change of heart, having previously said his chances of survival were only 25 per cent. He says it’s now more “50-50” and isn’t affected by the fact that nothing has been resolved yet.

“It’s been packed with everyone, so I’m not surprised,” he added.
