📌 **What You’ll Learn**:
Scottish defender John Souttar has signed a new contract with Rangers, keeping him at the Ibrox club until May 2027.
The 29-year-old’s previous contract was due to expire at the end of this season, but he has committed to at least one more season, with Rangers also having an option to extend for a further year.
Having joined Dundee United’s academy, Souttar spent over six years at Hearts before moving to Glasgow in the summer of 2022.
He won the Scottish League Cup in the 2023-24 season and has played a key role this season as Danny Ruhl’s side attempt to win the Scottish Premiership title.
Rangers trails league leaders Hearts by two points after beating Tynecastle 4-2 last Sunday.
“It’s an exciting time to be here and an exciting time to be involved with the club, so I’m delighted,” Soutar said after the signing.
He added: “I understand the situation I am in, how honored it is to play here, and the requirements here, and I personally am very happy and excited to know my future here.”
Ruhl, whose team has not lost 12 matches in the local competition, described Souttar as one of the central figures in his team.
The German coach said: “We are happy that John has agreed to this new contract with the club.”
He added: “Retaining our best players and leaders is extremely important for future success, while a Scottish presence in the team will also be key.”
He added: “This is great news for everyone at the club, with a lot to look forward to between now and the end of the season, and hopefully John will come to the World Cup at the end of it.”
