Scotland received a huge boost with the unexpected return of eighth player Jack Dempsey to the squad before facing Grand Slam title-chasing France on Saturday.
The 31-year-old injured his bicep in the Calcutta Cup win over England and was expected to miss the rest of the Six Nations.
But Scotland announced he was back in the squad ahead of the visit of unbeaten France to Murrayfield.
It’s good news for Gregor Townsend’s side, who sit second in the table, because Dempsey missed his ball-carrying and dynamism in the win over Wales.
The Glasgow Warriors side, who scored in the defeat to Italy, has been in fine form for his club this season and, if fit to play a role at Murrayfield, he will add even more strength when Scotland face a formidable France group.
France will arrive in Edinburgh favorites to win the match and poised to win the Grand Slam against England in Paris the following week.
However, a win for Scotland will keep their title hopes alive ahead of their visit to Ireland on the final weekend.
Glasgow first-row duo Seb Steffen and Murphy Walker have also joined the squad after playing in the Warriors’ defeat to Connacht on Saturday.
Walker, 26, has five caps, but 20-year-old Steven is yet to make his debut.
