Kilmarnock teenage winger Findlay Curtis has surprisingly joined Steve Clarke’s Scotland squad for two friendlies later this month.

Curtis, 19, joined Kilmarnock on loan from Rangers in January after making 26 appearances in an impressive first half of the season at Ibrox.

With Bournemouth’s Ben Gannon Doak just back from injury and Scotland lacking depth in the wide attacking areas, Curtis has his first opportunity to impress as Clarke prepares to lead Scotland into the World Cup finals next June.

Scotland host Japan at Hampden on Saturday 28 March before facing Ivory Coast at Everton Hill Dickinson on Tuesday 31 March.

Wrexham defender Dominic Hyam and Middlesbrough striker Tommy Conway have also been called up to join the stable of squad.

Everton right-back Nathan Paterson is also included as he played no part in Scotland’s successful World Cup qualifying campaign in the autumn due to injury.

Napoli’s Billy Gilmour also returns after missing the last camp due to injury, while his teammate Scott McTominay and Aston Villa’s John McGinn are in action as expected after their recent return to action.

Gannon Doak, a key part of the Scotland side that ended a 28-year wait to reach the men’s World Cup finals, returned to Bournemouth’s squad on Saturday but was left out as he aims to return to full fitness.

Hearts striker Lawrence Shankland is also absent as his return to his club approaches, and Aaron Hickey is also sidelined.

Falkirk’s Scott Payne is the only goalkeeper currently playing regularly, with Angus Gunn and Liam Kelly second choice at Nottingham Forest and Rangers respectively.
