💡 **What You’ll Learn**:

St Mirren already have one title under their belt after stunning Celtic 3-1 in the League Cup final last December, and will be hoping that another cup run will lift the gloom that has hung over the Paisley team since then.

Tuesday’s 2-1 defeat to Dundee United left Stephen Robinson’s side just three points ahead of Kilmarnock in the Premier League relegation zone, and they have won just three times in 15 games.

Two of them have come in the cup and they will have high hopes of progressing, and getting a first win in six games, given they are at home to a second-tier side.

However, Thistle are unbeaten in seven games, three of them away, although they have drawn their last two games against promotion rivals Dunfermline and Arbroath to fall five points behind leaders St Johnstone.

This is the Glasgow side’s first appearance in the cup quarter-finals since 2019, when the 1922 winners lost to Hearts.

Three-time champions St Mirren also lost to Hearts in their last quarter-final appearance in 2022, having reached the semi-finals the previous season.

Despite their recent woes, they will be heavy favorites to deny Thistle a first semi-final appearance since 2002 and claim a third successive home win over Firhill after League Cup victories in 2020 and 2021.

However, Mark Wilson’s side will arrive for a match shown live on BBC Scotland, iPlayer, online and app, dreaming of a repeat of their last Scottish Cup visit to Paisley, when they won 2-1.

How they got there:

St Mirren needed extra time before beating another Championship side, Airdrieonians, 2-1 away in the final round, having also needed a penalty shootout to oust Premier League rivals Livingston following a 1-1 draw in West Lothian.

Thistle have beaten three lower league sides so far, 2-0 away to Second Division side Forfar Athletic, 3-1 at home to Third Division Montrose 3-1, and were then made to battle against Fourth Division hosts Elgin City before prevailing 3-2.
