An ’emotional’ Shaun Murphy is aiming to win a trophy named after a late friend after setting up the German Masters final against world number one Judd Trump.

Former world champion Murphy dispatched Neil Robertson 6-1 in the semi-final, and now has a chance to win the event’s Brandon Parker Trophy – which commemorates his friend and manager who died of cancer in 2020.

Parker was a key figure in promoting the event in Berlin, and his trophy was named after him a year after his death.

“I think emotionally about Brandon all the time, so the fact that I’m there won’t change anything,” Murphy said, looking ahead to Sunday’s final.

“It might give me a bit of an escape actually. I’ll just focus on snooker.”

“It would be great to take home the Brandon Parker Cup. It would mean a lot to me probably more than any other player on the tour.”

Murphy opened the semi-final with a tie-break of 122 and, after being pegged again in the next frame, made two more centuries – 129 and 125 – en route to a comfortable victory.

“For much of that match I was close to my best,” he added.

Murphy’s dominant form was carried over from previous rounds, which saw him overcome Kyren Wilson and Mark Allen with ease.

This will be the second German Masters final for Murphy, who lost to Mark Selby in 2015.

In the evening session held on Saturday at the Tempodrome Berlin, three-time German champion Trump reached the final after defeating Ali Carter 6-2.

Trump took the first four frames before Carter fought back to make it 4-2.

However, Trump was able to watch the match and move one step closer to winning a first title since the 2024 UK Championship.
