India recalled batsman Shafali Verma in place of injured Pratika Rawal for the Women’s World Cup semi-final against Australia.

Rawal suffered an ankle injury while participating in India’s final group match against Bangladesh on Sunday.

The 25-year-old opener attempted to stop a boundary on the slippery pitch at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai and was later unable to bat in the match.

Rawal is the second highest run-scorer in the tournament with 308 in six innings at 51.33, behind only fellow India opener Smriti Mandhana.

India’s request to replace Rawal in its squad with Verma has been approved by the International Cricket Council’s Technical Committee for the tournament.

Verma has not played a one-day international for India since October 2024, but has played over 50 cricket matches for India A in recent months.

The 21-year-old was left out of India’s original World Cup squad, but will now be in contention for a place against Australia in their semi-final clash on October 30.

Amanjot Kaur opened against Bangladesh after Rawal limped off while Uma Chhetri and Jemima Rodriguez are other potential partners for Mandhana at the top of the order.
