Joint director Chris Wigfield says parties with “significant financial means” are interested in buying Sheffield Wednesday and could “revolutionize the club”.

Meanwhile, the Sheffield Wednesday Supporters’ Fund has revealed that it aims to raise money to sign players while the club is in administration.

The Championship club and the company that owns Hillsborough were placed into administration on October 24, with HMRC poised to submit a liquidation order for a debt of around £1.7m. This ended Dejphon Chansiri’s 10-year ownership of the Owls, with Begbie Traynor appointed as administrators.

Wigfield revealed that the club was being run on a shoestring budget under Chancery. He said that after fans returned after the boycott, by January, officials could run the club at a profit of around £1m.

Seven bidders have already applied, and more are expected.

“We’re pretty confident we’ve got the cash flow sorted now, so as long as fans continue to buy tickets at the rate we expected, we’ll be OK,” Wigfield told BBC Sport.

“We’re making a lot more from the club shop than we were yesterday in the stalls [inside the ground] We achieved 50% more than the club normally does from a similar sized crowd.

“We now have seven bidders who have shown proof of financing. We expect that to increase. We showed one today, out of seven, but we will probably end up with nine or 10 serious bidders.”

“We need them to convince us that they will make the club viable, and we need them to convince us that they will pass the Premier League test. But beyond that, it’s really about who makes the best offer, not necessarily who will be the best goalkeeper for the club.

“All seven interested parties that we have at the moment are likely to improve the situation significantly, and a few parties have the significant financial means that would revolutionize the club.”
