Sheffield Wednesday: The Championship side hit by management paid wages early today

Sheffield Wednesday officials said players and staff were paid their full wages a day early, ending a long pattern of monthly delays in payment.

The Championship club were placed in guard and hit with a 12-point penalty last week after months of turmoil under owner Dejvon Chansiri.

In the days that followed, fans ended their boycott of the club, and Chris Wigfield, of Begbie Traynor’s administrators, said fans had already spent more than £500,000 on tickets and in the club shop as of Monday.

Wage payments were deferred in five of the seven months before administrators took charge of the club and ended Chancery’s 10-year spell as owner.

The points deduction means that the Owls team occupies second place in the second division, six points behind, and 16 points behind the safety zone.
