Sheffield Wednesday: The Championship team is on the verge of historic relegation

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder said the prospect of their cross-town rivals being relegated was “not on his mind at all”.

The Blades fan, who are unbeaten in their seven matches against the Owls, said he disagreed with the idea that his side, who sit 15th in the table, should get a win.

He told BBC Radio Sheffield: “We made more preparations for this match than we did for any match this season and all matches except the final match last season.”

“I have complete respect for Henrik and a group of players… There is talk of a mismatch or a mistake, whether it’s due to the bookies’ odds or the narrative in the city… Football doesn’t work that way.

He added: “Players must play with discipline and control to win a football match and win the local derby.”

Wilder added: “We’ve put together a slide about Macclesfield vs. Crystal Palace and Bodo/Glimt vs. Manchester City. There are all sorts of examples recently, let alone that.” [in] 100 years after football, the game is still not decided on team sheets.

“We realize this is their season on the line, and we’re not fools. But we have our fight, and our fight has to be bigger than theirs.”
