No club in the history of the second tier of English football has suffered a greater decline in season than Sheffield United at this stage.
The Blades, who last finished third before losing to Sunderland in the final, have won 33 points* in their first 15 games of the 2024-25 season.
This season, 15 matches brought only 10 points.
For context, even allowing for a 12-point deduction, Wednesday has just 22 fewer points than it did after 15 games last season.
The disastrous appointment of Ruben Seles in the summer led to six defeats in six matches before Chris Wilder was reinstated less than three months after his sacking.
“It’s been a difficult period for everyone, most importantly the fans,” he told BBC Radio Sheffield after three wins in his first 10 matches.
“I was disappointed with the results. The performance, from a data standpoint, was very good.
“Getting it right was difficult. I thought it would be easier than it was before, but we are working away and we will get where we want.”
Earlier this month, they became the first second-tier club since Wimbledon in 2003-04 to lose 11 of their first 14 league matches.
Since the Second Division was renamed the Championship in 2004, seven of the 11 teams with 10 points from 15 matches have been relegated, with no team finishing higher than 14th.
*A two-point deduction from the Premier League for lost transfer fees in the 2022-23 season means the Blades took 31 points from 15 games but won 33.
