Six Nations 2025: Title substitutions and the wooden spoon

The penultimate round of the Six Nations takes place this weekend as France will be able to secure back-to-back titles with victory over Scotland on Saturday.

To keep their Championship hopes alive, Andy Farrell’s Ireland need a big win over Wales on Friday.

But if Ireland win without bonus points, or lose, France will need any kind of victory in Edinburgh to secure the title.

A bonus-point win for Fabien Galthie’s side at Murrayfield, which has won every match by maximum points so far, is enough to claim the title regardless of other results.

If France loses but picks up at least one point, or Scotland wins without a bonus point, Galthie’s team remains in control due to the superior points difference.

A bonus-point win for Scotland and nothing for the visitors would leave Gregor Townsend’s side in a position to clinch the title with another maximum points win in their final game against Ireland in Dublin.

After missing out on a bonus point to Italy, Farrell’s side will likely need to lose last year’s champions in their final two matches to keep their hopes alive.

France, which is seeking to win its first Grand Slam title since 2022, will host England in the final match of the tournament, while Italy will travel to Cardiff to face Wales.
