Six Nations 2025: Wales reappoint coaching trio on interim basis

Lydiate combined playing and coaching duties for the Dragons in the 2024-25 season when he made 12 appearances before hanging up his boots.

The 38-year-old former player remains as part of Velo Tiatia’s staff in charge of the contact area.

Patchell, a former fly-half, joined the Dragons last summer in a part-time role and has been working with the kickers.

Ex-Wales Jones made 223 appearances for the Ospreys and won 57 international caps. He was appointed coach of his hometown team in 2018 before being promoted to first-team coach two years later.

The Ospreys and Dragons meet in Bridgend on Saturday 31 January when their Wales squad is missing.

There is one round of URC action during the Six Nations with the Ospreys hosting Ulster and the Dragons hosting Benetton on Saturday 28 February.

“Having Duncan, Dan and Rhys back working alongside Steve, Danny and Matt allows us to maintain a good balance in the coaching staff,” WRU Director of Rugby and Elite Performance Dave Redden said.

“This consistency and cohesion will help the player group continue to grow and develop.”
