Farrell was also pleased with how the more experienced Test players stepped up after questions about their form as they complemented headline-stealing performances from Stuart McCloskey and Rob Baloconi.

“Kaylan [Doris] “He’s back to his best, and Joe McCarthy was fantastic,” noted Farrell, who also praised man of the match Jamison Gibson-Park.

“Josh [van der Flier] He was huge in the first half, wasn’t he? You know, with his running streak and things like that.

“They know they have a responsibility. We said before the game, the big players come and perform for the big team.

“They set great examples, but for the players I just mentioned, for Rob Baloconi to come here and do that, you know you’re going to have a good day when he gets the ball, and just his belief in beating people, and for Stu to dominate at that kind of level, was a joy to see.”

With McCluskey and Balokoni establishing themselves in the Test arena, experienced players finding their form, and the likes of Mack Hansen, Hugo Keenan and Andrew Porter still returning from injury, Farrell’s side suddenly look in good shape 18 months on from the 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia.

“That’s the point. That’s the best part of it,” he said.

“We know that and we have to hold on a little bit along the way. I think a win like this will put people back in the game a little bit.

“As long as we know where we’re going.”

Ireland host winless Wales on March 6 (20:10 GMT) before wrapping up the campaign against fellow Triple Crown chasers Scotland in Dublin on March 14 (14:10).
