Irish coach Andy Farrell has selected just two Welsh players when he is coach of the British and Irish Lions for the 2025 tour with winger Jack Morgan and scrum-half Tomos Williams traveling to Australia.

Lake was asked if the selection of the Lions was indicative of the difference between the two sides at the moment.

“It’s not really possible,” Lake said. “Ultimately, over the last 12 months, we haven’t been good enough as a team.

“The two guys, Tomos and Jack, are world-class players and absolutely deserve to be on that tour.

“We haven’t put enough results together and haven’t shown the team and individuals that we can be over the last 12 months.

“Ireland is a team that has improved greatly and is top-class. That shows a clear gap at the moment. But on this day, we believe we can beat anyone.”

Lake says Wales will not try to prove Farrell wrong this weekend.

“I don’t think it has anything to do with why we think we can compete against Ireland,” Lake said.

“No matter who is in the room, or who is coaching, we believe we are a good enough team to do their job.”
