The 24-year-old was one of seven Ulster players in Ireland’s squad for the match in Dublin, with five in the starting lineup and two as substitutes.

Doak continued: “I think there was a statistic during the week that there were no Ulster players in the last Irish team that played Wales, so to have seven players tonight shows the work we are doing and that we are desperate to come and play in the green jersey. That is where all our aspirations lie.”

“Ulster is doing well and we are reaping the benefits.

“Because it was so fast [coming on for Gibson-Park in the first half] You didn’t have time to think, so it was a nice thing too. “Then it becomes easier the second time, which helps calm the nerves.”

Doak added that the week leading up to his debut is the week he will cherish.

“It’s been a school week, my family has been there at my jersey display during the week, and to have them here with me tonight, it’s been a great week,” Doak said while speaking to reporters after the game.

“The players have made me feel at home all week, and even the last four or five weeks, so it’s really easy to settle in here and be yourself.”
