Sherratt says the customary post-match review on Tuesday highlighted the nature of the defeat.
“The review was honest,” Sherratt said.
“It wasn’t brutal, but it was honest. We spent two days after that, which helped, because sometimes it’s a bit of a sad process.
“By the time we came back on Tuesday, there had been a lot of conversations and the players understood that as well.
“It’s not about coaches standing up front and telling players where things went wrong.
“We’ve been pretty much on board, we’ve got top players who have been hurting like everyone else.”
Sherat says that the players were unable to put together what was prepared in training.
“We felt like we worked hard for two weeks, but in every sport, it’s about producing what you did in training on the day and we weren’t able to do that,” Sherratt said.
“Apart from the scoreboard, that was the most frustrating thing. We didn’t feel like we replicated what we did in practice.”
Sherratt says Wales will try to stay on track with the same approach despite the miserable recent results.
“It’s a balance, as with any job,” Sherratt said.
“If you start changing course every two or three weeks, you lose confidence in what you’re trying to do as well.
“We were clear from the beginning. We have a group of players that we want to play a certain way.
“It’s been inconsistent. We saw it against Argentina and New Zealand and then we didn’t see it in the other games.
“So it’s about trying to get more of what we’re trying to do on the pitch, not change.
“We are not stubborn, so we will look at the best chance for the team to get a result at the weekend.
“But you can’t cancel your plans every week either.”
