Six Nations 2026: Wales v Scotland – Steve Tandy is looking forward to a Scotland reunion

Scotland coach Gregor Townsend will prepare his side to face a struggling Wales side, but Tandy accepts there will be familiarity between the two sides.

“They know a lot about me and I know a lot about the coaching staff,” Tandy said.

“They were amazing and we went through a lot in the World Cup and amazing moments in the Six Nations.

“They know how I handle things too, but maybe it’s just don’t overthink it and go into too much detail, because you can get ahead of yourself.”

Instead of working for Townsend, this time Tandy will be in direct opposition to his former boss.

“It will be great to see him after the game,” Townsend said.

“We’ve exchanged messages, not a lot this week, but in the first two games.

“We think a lot about Steve. He spent a long time with us, so he had a big influence on our players.

He added: “He helped me a lot as a coach, and I’m sure that after the match, whatever the result, we can have a few beers in the changing room.”

Tandy added: “It will definitely be different!”

“He was fantastic for me, taught me a lot about international rugby, encouraged me to be better and helped me grow and develop.

“It pushed me out of my comfort zone and I feel like your best growth comes when you feel uncomfortable.”

It’s been uncomfortable so far for Tandy in his new role.

In its six matches, Wales lost five times, conceding 302 points and 42 attempts.

So, what are his expectations for his home country against the nation that gave him his international sabbatical?

“The expectation is that we will be better than we were last week,” Tandy said.

“We understand how good Scotland are too, they beat England easily and should have beaten the All Blacks.

“It’s in black and white, we’ve only won two games in 25 games, so it’s not going to come with the click of a finger.

“We believe in this group and if we are better than we were last week, I think we will be closer to where we want to be.”
