💡 **What You’ll Learn**:
Slate Auto, the electric car startup backed by Jeff Bezos, has built its business around the idea of simplicity and customization. Start with a $24,950 unpainted gray electric pickup truck with a range of 205 miles—with none of the tech flair—and allow the buyer to customize it to their liking with vehicle wraps, decals, lighting and other accessories.
Vehicle wraps—a printed vinyl layer that can be applied to a car, truck, or SUV without having to paint it—are a key component of this customization strategy with hundreds of different colors and textures. And now Slate is adding more by partnering with crayon maker Crayola.
Slate said Thursday it will offer five vehicle skins that use Crayola’s signature colors, including Cerulean, Fern, Jersey Tomato, Razzmatazz and Dandelion. Crayola-colored car wraps cost $1,549.99, according to Slate. The company also offers a Crayola keychain and “Slatelet,” which are custom pieces of art that attach to the dashboard, for those who choose a car wrap in a crayon color.

This isn’t Slate’s only collaboration, though it may be the most popular with kids. The company is also working with New York City artist Max Colo on the car’s wrap. However, this is a first for Crayola. Anna Rocca, head of global partnerships at Crayola, said this is the company’s first automotive partnership.
Slate wouldn’t reveal whether it’s working with other companies like Crayola to offer more vehicle cover designs. “We’re excited to welcome makers, creators, and partners over time,” a Slate spokesperson said in an email, suggesting that more packaging could still be offered.
Given the custom-heavy path Slate has taken so far, it’s easy to imagine a plethora of collaborative design processes in the future.
Slate is still a newcomer in the auto industry. The company came out of stealth in April 2025 and has yet to deliver its first shipments. Last month, the company revealed its $24,950 base price and began taking pre-orders for the vehicle, which starts as a two-seat truck and can be modified into a more expensive five-seat SUV for $29,950.
