Spotify is rolling out audiobook charts

Spotify announced on Friday the launch of its US and UK audiobook charts. Similar to the streaming giant’s music and podcast charts, the audiobook charts will be updated weekly and highlight the best audiobooks overall and by genre. The company says these ratings are based on listening behavior and engagement with the streaming service.

The new charts are accessible to both free and paid users within the Audiobook Center. You can find them by clicking on the search button in the app and checking the “Audiobooks” box to enter the center. Next, you have to scroll down to the “Dig deeper” section to find the charts.

The move marks Spotify’s latest investment in audiobooks, after formally supporting the format in 2022.

Since then, Spotify has continued to invest in audiobooks with additional features like the recently launched “Page Match” tool, which allows users to scan a page from a physical book to instantly jump to that point in the audiobook, and “Audiobook Summaries,” which are short audio summaries to update you on what you’ve actually read so far.

Spotify says the new audiobook charts will benefit both readers and authors by giving listeners a reliable way to discover popular titles, while also creating new opportunities for authors and the publishing industry to reach wider audiences.

“As we’ve proven with the music and podcast charts, when content is easier to access, discover, and enjoy, demand grows,” Duncan Bruce, Spotify’s director of audiobook partnerships and licensing, said in a blog post. “Now we’re excited to add this to audiobooks, to help provide more ways for users, publishers and authors to discover what’s trending on Spotify, and make books more culturally relevant in real time.”

It’s worth noting that Spotify isn’t just interested in audiobooks, as the streaming giant has recently ventured into physical book sales. Spotify announced earlier this month that users in the US and UK will soon be able to purchase physical copies of books directly within the app through a partnership with Bookshop.org.
