📌 **What You’ll Learn**:

Spotify announced on Thursday that it plans to adopt Apple’s HLS (HTTP Live Streaming) video technology, which Apple recently introduced on Apple Podcasts to enhance the video experience. This certification means that Spotify-hosted shows will soon be able to distribute and monetize their audio video files on Apple Podcasts, expanding creators’ reach without having to make any changes to their existing settings.

With HLS certification, Spotify listeners should be able to enjoy a consistently high-quality video experience, regardless of their Internet connection. As Apple explains, HLS technology automatically adjusts video quality in real-time based on network speed, whether users are using fast Wi-Fi at home or rely on cellular data. This means that audio videos will play smoothly with minimal interruptions and hence there will be less buffering and sudden drop in video quality.

Spotify plans to roll out these HLS upgrades later this year, and has also announced more ways creators can monetize, including direct sales and new partner integrations.

Additionally, Spotify makes it easier for podcasters to distribute and monetize video content across platforms. The company announced that creators using hosting providers like Libsyn, Podigee, Audioboom, Audiomeans, and Podspace can now publish live video podcasts on Spotify and earn revenue through the Spotify Partner Program. This is currently available, after being previously announced earlier this year.

As video continues to drive podcast growth, Spotify’s ongoing improvements help creators reach and engage viewers who prefer visual content, strengthening its position in the evolving podcasting landscape.

Over the past few years, Spotify has doubled down on its video efforts, following its initial launch of video podcasts in 2020. Earlier this year, the platform expanded creators’ reach by lowering video monetization requirements. As of November 2025, nearly half a million views and over 390 million users have streamed a video podcast on Spotify.
