It’s the name given to the day it became mathematically impossible for Tottenham Hotspur to finish above Arsenal in the Premier League.
And look away Spurs fans, because it looks like that day will arrive earlier than ever.
If relegation-threatened Tottenham fail to beat Fulham on Sunday (14:00 GMT), Arsenal fans can celebrate St Totteringham’s Day once again. Whatever the Spurs result, Arsenal will ensure it with a win over Chelsea later in the day (16:30).
A play on the words “Tottenham” and “reeling”, the phrase was introduced by Arsenal fan site Arseweb in the early 2000s, but gained greater national prominence in the 2010s.
Arsenal fans are still celebrating their big win in the north London derby a week ago, and will relish the idea of some early St Totteringham’s Day celebrations – the previous first being on 9 March 2008.
This moment, if it happens, only highlights the current gap between the two arch rivals.
Arsenal are top of the Premier League, while Tottenham are fighting to stay in the top flight with interim coach Igor Tudor replacing Thomas Frank this month.
