✅ **What You’ll Learn**:
Throughout our interview, Ihsan continued to return to his determination to do his best and not leave any stone unturned.
There’s no arrogance about him, just a steely confidence and drive ingrained in his psyche.
Ehsan and teammate Safyan Sharif received their visas after the rest of the traveling Scottish squad and were therefore unable to play in the Scots’ first friendly match against Afghanistan.
Despite this disappointment, he took the opportunity to pick the brains of Hamid Hassan – a former Afghan bowler and now coach – and one of the sport’s most experienced campaigners like Mohammad Nabi.
International star Rashid Khan also came to chat before the match.
These are some of Ihsan’s heroes, but there are no divided loyalties.
“Scotland gave me respect and believed in me,” he said. “I was born in Afghanistan but my country is Scotland.”
He experienced his first taste of international cricket on Wednesday, taking 1-49 as Scotland narrowly lost to Namibia in a high-scoring match.
Afterwards, the teams played a brilliant training session, with Ihsan confident in playing the ball for Scotland.
“He has good pace and is able to deliver yorker, slower and bouncer balls, which are good commodities in T20s,” said assistant coach Gordon Drummond.
“He played his first game and showed that if you go a little over the goal, you will be punished. The more experience he has, the more he will develop.
“He will learn a lot from the players here and he really enjoyed having conversations with the Afghan players on the day.
“He’s a very well-rounded person which is the really nice thing [the Namibia game] Did he come out of the park and was upset about the way he threw the ball. This shows the extent of his personality and willingness to learn.
“We can’t predict the future, but there hasn’t been a huge amount of input from the Cricket Scotland staff. I feel there’s a lot left in the tank and that’s the exciting thing. The more he plays against higher level opposition the more he learns.”
