The unanswered question about South Africa is what happens if the top order fails.
Janssen looks very high at number seven. Will they feel free to go all out in a knockout match?
The Proteas are also unique among the semi-finalists in that they do not have a wrist-spinner in their XI, instead leaving their spin duties to left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj and part-time Markram.
This means the Proteas have bowled the fewest number of laps in the tournament – just 22.8%.
In contrast, 53% of England’s overs were from spinners.
“You can just cut your coat to your fabric size, and we don’t have wrist spinning machines or mysterious spinning machines,” Conrad said.
“Our bowling attack has been designed in such a way that we have options to take wickets and that is something we have led, especially with players like KG [Rabada] And Marco [Jansen] “Their impact in the match will be through taking wickets.”
The gaps in South Africa have been filled by Ngidi, whom Conrad calls a “mystery tailor,” and seamer Corbin Bush.
Ngidi is known for his range of slow balls.
He conceded just 6.2 runs in the middle phase of the innings while the unheralded Bush took six wickets in that period.
“They are all Test match bowlers, so bowling for the duration of a Test match is not that difficult for them, so I think that is still really difficult to bat consistently.
“Bush keeps it very simple, he trains smart, he trains hard, he doesn’t give himself a lot of options.
“We have Lungi who has a slower, really tricky ball, and then Marco and KG are Marco and KG.
“It’s nice to be able to have that kind of variety.”
In 2024, India became the first team to win the T20 World Cup unbeaten. If South Africa wants to win the tournament, they will now have to do the same.
“The South African team looks ready,” said former England captain Michael Vaughan.
“I think the World Test Championship final win at Lord’s gave them that boost.
“India played the pure game against [50-over World Cup] The final is in 2023 and he had one slip in the final [against Australia]. “That is the only fear for South Africa.”
