T20 World Cup: Pakistan spinners stand between England and semi-finals

Donith Willallage’s dismissal means England skipper Harry Brook has been dismissed by spinners four times in a row in the World Cup.

Overall, he now averages 19.1 against spin in T20 internationals, compared to 46.2 against pace.

Jacob Bethel, who played a terrible effort to fall to Mahesh Thekshana on Sunday, was out to the spinner in every innings.

Jos Buttler was pinned in front by Wellalage, although he looked equally annoyed by the seamers.

Butler, who scored three straight points, was the only player from Tuesday’s projected lineup to practice Monday night.

As England rarely train when there is only one day between matches, it shows Buttler’s struggle to regain fitness.

Tuesday’s match will once again be played in Pallekele, where England have now won four T20 titles in a row in a matter of weeks. It has become a home away from home in the Sri Lankan jungle.

The match will also be played at a new, unused stadium, which England hope will be better suited to clean shots. If not, they of course have their own potent offense as Sunday’s win showed.
