T20 World Cup results: Willjack and Rehan Ahmed lead England to victory over New Zealand

We have been waiting for England to qualify for this tournament. This win wasn’t perfect but it was undoubtedly their best of the tournament so far.

Jack is at the best level of his career, a career that poses a serious threat to England.

His innings, plus 2-23, was the match-winner and won him his fourth Man of the Match award in this competition.

But Jax may not have been able to pull off the steal without 21-year-old Ahmed, whose six-ball brought the chase back to life on his World Cup debut.

His second goal, which beat the experienced Santner, effectively sealed the deal.

Ahmed, who also got a wicket off his first ball, was chosen because of the conditions here. Can England really leave him out next week?

The big issue remaining is Jos Buttler’s form. He was out for a two-ball duck – his fifth score in a row.

Phil Salt also took first while Brook scored 21, Jacob Bethell 21, Tom Banton 33 and Sam Curran 24 – all contributions but not match-defining scores.

However, Jack and Ahmed confirmed that this will not be the focus. England could face India in Mumbai next week. What an occasion that would be.
