Scotland faced England on the defensive in the 2024 encounter in Barbados by reaching 90-0 in 10 overs.

England were facing a tough chase of 109 in their 10 overs before rain killed off the match.

In the 2018 ODI, Scotland made 371 at The Grange before bowling out England for 365.

“Obviously this happened a long time ago and we can take some confidence from that, but it’s a completely new team on both sides,” Will said.

“Obviously we understand it’s a tremendous competition in all sports.

“We see it as a great opportunity to really get out there and show everyone what we can do as a team.”

Zimbabwe beat Australia in Colombo on Friday in the first major shock of the T20 World Cup.

However, others approached major upheaval.

Nepal lost to England in an exciting match, the United States beat host India 77-6, and the Netherlands came close to beating Pakistan.

“Skill levels across the board are constantly improving, players are gaining the opportunity to play in a few different leagues, and there are clearly places for a few affiliated players and teams around the world,” Weil said.

“At the end of the day, it’s just about opportunity.

“You have players playing a lot of cricket around the world and getting the experience they need. That gap is definitely closing.”

Scotland, who lost to the West Indies in their first match before beating Italy in the second, initially missed out on qualifying for this tournament.

They were added with two weeks’ notice when Bangladesh opted to boycott and Wale said the last-minute nature of their recall helped the players.

“It definitely takes the stress away because you’re just immersed in the situation,” he said.

“But as I said, at the end of the day, the players have been training hard.

“They know their skills and support their talents.

“So no matter what preparations and preparations we’ve done, over the last couple of weeks, we’ve kind of come together as a team and accepted the situation as it is.”
