Team GB’s silver medalist curling team says they would “love” to win gold at the 2030 Winter Olympics in France but will “sit out the summer” before making a decision.

Bruce Mowatt, Grant Hardie, Hammy McMillan and Bobby Lammy, as well as substitute Kyle Waddell, arrived in Italy for this year’s Games as world champions and favourites, but were beaten by Canada in a tight encounter that ended 9-6.

This was the second runner-up medal in the skating rink after losing to Sweden in China four years ago.

Speaking on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme, McMillan said competitors in elite sports were “getting younger” but added: “I wouldn’t say no. I would love to be out there again in 2030 to try and get that one medal we don’t have.”

“Grant and I are the oldest two on the team at 33 at the moment, so we’ll be 37, which is pretty big in terms of being a sports person, but for curling maybe not.”

In a separate interview with BBC Breakfast, Hardy explained: “I think that’s why both Hammy and I were so impressed on the podium. At 33 years old, you don’t know if you’re going to do another Olympics or not.”

“One was a dream, two were even better. To get two medals out of two is amazing.

“I think we’ll sit down in the summer and see what the next four years look like.”
