There is now a real possibility of the TA and PTPA reaching a final agreement before the Australian Open kicks off in January.

It has not been revealed whether the TA will make firm commitments on prize money or scheduling, but the agreement could strengthen the PTPA’s position with the other major leagues.

The New York case could eventually lead to a jury trial. Separate complaints have been made to the European Commission and the UK Competition and Markets Authority, but the PTPA has previously admitted that an out-of-court settlement is the aim.

“The goal is not to bring a lawsuit to the end,” Ahmed Nassar, executive director of the PTPA, told BBC Sport in March.

“We’re very willing to do that, but that’s not what we really need or want.

“What we want is to get everyone around the table to reform the sport in the way that many of them have already talked about.”

A New York judge is currently considering a motion by the ATP and WTA to dismiss the antitrust suit.

The ATP said in March that it “strongly rejects the premise of the ATP allegations” and called the case “completely baseless.”

The WTA cited a “baseless legal case that diverts time, attention and resources from our core mission to the detriment of our players and the sport as a whole.”

The International Tennis Federation and the International Tennis Integrity Agency were originally listed as defendants, but were removed from the lawsuit in September.
