With new federal student loan limits poised to limit the amount families can borrow, many students may soon find a traditional four-year bachelor’s degree financially out of reach.
For students looking to quickly enter the workforce, avoid excessive debt, or retrain for in-demand jobs, these options can provide a more practical and financially sustainable path.
According to recent data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, heavy-duty truck drivers and tractor-trailer drivers will have the highest number of job openings from 2024 to 2034 for workers with a post-secondary education but do not have a bachelor’s degree, such as those with a certificate.
There will be an estimated 237,600 job openings for truck drivers in each of these years, and they are expected to earn a median wage of $57,440, which is higher than the median wage across all occupations.
K-12 nursing assistants and teaching assistants ranked second and third for most job opportunities available to workers without a bachelor’s degree.
In addition to truck drivers, most vocational nurses, as well as auto service technicians and mechanics, also earn more than the average wage. These professions rank ninth and seventh, respectively, for the most job opportunities in professions that do not require a bachelor’s degree.
