The FBI is investigating a hacker suspected of posting several malware-filled video games on the popular computer game store Steam, the agency said Friday.
In its announcement of victims who may have been infected, the FBI listed the following games that the same cybercriminal is suspected of having developed over the past two years, which were hosted on Steam but embedded with malware: BlockBlasters, Chemia, Dashverse/DashFPS, Lampy, Lunara, PirateFi, and Tokenova.
This isn’t the first time hackers have been able to host malware in the Valve-owned gaming market. Last year, hackers posted several games on Steam that contained malware. The toys were functional, if a bit primitive. In fact, the goal of the developers or developers was to act as a kind of Trojan horse, tricking players into installing malware on their computers. Steam has taken the games down, but an unknown number of people have been infected in the meantime.
