The Kremlin says that Trump made a phone call with Putin to discuss the war on Iran

US President Donald Trump held a phone call on Monday with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin to discuss the war in Iran and other issues, according to the Kremlin.

Putin’s foreign affairs adviser Yuri Ushakov described the conversation as “frank and practical” and said it lasted about an hour.

He said that the Russian president “expressed some ideas aimed at a quick political and diplomatic settlement” of the conflict after his talks with Gulf leaders and the Iranian president.

Ushakov said Trump presented his assessment of the developing situation “in the context of the ongoing US-Israeli operation.”

He added that the two leaders exchanged “specific and useful views” and touched on Venezuela “in the context of the situation in the global oil market.”

Putin said earlier on Monday that Russia “has repeatedly warned that attempts to destabilize the situation in the Middle East will inevitably jeopardize” the global energy market, leading to higher prices and limiting supplies.

The Russian president stressed that Moscow is a “reliable energy supplier” and will continue to supply oil and gas to “countries that consider themselves reliable partners,” such as those in the Asia-Pacific region or Slovakia and Hungary in Eastern Europe. Moreover, Russia is working to “increase supplies” to its trusted partners, Putin said.

He reiterated that Russia is considering diverting gas supplies from the European Union, where it was agreed to impose a complete ban on Russian gas starting in 2027, to other markets, but added that if “European buyers” change their minds, Moscow is ready to work with them.
